Talisman

The Talisman is made of small flat disks of porcelain, some with touches of glaze, others folded. The shapes are complemented with other shapes of clay hanging between and below the disks. They are strung together with beads in-between, allowing the disks to tangle with each other and produce a pleasant sound. The colorful beads provide a contrast to the white disks. Sometimes the beads are made from porcelain as well, creating a less contrasting hanging sculpture. The sculpture can be made shorter or longer. Occasionally I indent them with words like “friendship, peace, honor” etc.

They are multi sensorial: visual in that they are something delicate to look at; audible when moving they create a tinkling sound; tactile being so thin as to take care when touching them. Each hanging sculpture is meant to be contemplated, given to a friend as a peace gesture in friendship and seen as an element of beauty.
